Dear parents and carers,
My weekly message has been delayed until today as I attended Grammar School, Diocesan and Christian Brothers’ conferences at the end of last week, ensuring that my impending retirement had not distracted us from the issues of the day! A belated Happy Father’s Day to all fathers in our community!
Last week was a successful one for us with our Junior Athletics Team winning the regional round of the English Schools Cup final, qualifying for the National Final in Stoke in early July, and the Under-12 Cricket team reaching the next round of the Cheshire Cup, defeating The Grange School in a super over! Congratulations to Charlie Clarke (Y9) who is a regular member of the Cheshire County team and is playing against Northumberland and Lancashire this week.
The richness of the educational opportunities provided at the College can be measured by the opportunities available to our students as a result of the dedication of our staff! The Year 9 English and History Trip to Flanders last week proved a great success. The boys (and staff!) were excellent ambassadors for the College and Miss Jones is optimistic about a future trip! The Geography Trip to Sorrento, Italy, left yesterday and we look forward to hearing of their progress and the sunny weather!
We have now entered the final week of GCSE and A Level Exams and wish our students stamina and success. The exam finishing line is in sight!
This means that we can regain the use of the Hall for wider college life, including celebration events. On Thursday morning Year 11 students are invited to join us at 11am for a celebration of their achievements and some gentle 6th Form induction. On Friday evening at 6pm Fr. Michael will celebrate our Year 13 Leavers’ Mass and there will be refreshments afterwards. This will be a joyful, but poignant, occasion!
On Friday Year 12 have a Higher Education Day in Liverpool and Year 10 will have an Economics Awareness morning, as we seek to broaden their perspectives and personal development. This week’s “Reading around the Subject” theme is the General Election so I direct students and parents to the resources provided by Mr Booth and Dr Cooper which I am sure you will find interesting!
I wish you and your families an enjoyable week. Let us hope that the weather, and England’s midfield, improves!
Best wishes,
Simon Duggan
