Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, thank you, for your support during this week’s exceptionally hot weather. It was greatly appreciated. Your help in ensuring students came to College prepared with water bottles, sun cream and appropriate clothing was greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, the extreme temperatures did result in the postponement of our Year 8 Geography field trip and the Touch Rugby tournament. However, despite the soaring temperatures, our Year 7-9 athletes competed brilliantly at the Wirral Athletics Championships. Congratulations to all of our students who demonstrated such resilience, in very challenging conditions.

This week also saw our Year 13 students celebrate their Prom at Thornton Manor. Despite the heat, it was a truly wonderful evening.  My sincere thanks to the staff at Thornton Manor for their delicious food, outstanding hospitality and fantastic entertainment. Thank you also to everyone who attended our Apprenticeship Information Evening yesterday. It was an informative event, and we hope families found it useful.

Next week promises to be another busy one. On Monday, our Year 10 students will take part in Careers Mock Interviews. We will also be offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation for students and staff in the Chapel during lunchtime. On Tuesday evening we look forward to welcoming Year 13 parents to our South Africa Trip Information Evening at 5.30pm, followed by our Year 6 Parents’ Welcome Evening at 6.00pm. Wednesday brings our Year 6 Induction Day, when we are delighted to welcome our newest Anselmians, while our Year 10 and Year 12 Geography students fly to Milan. On Thursday, College will close to students at 1pm as staff prepare for our annual Open Evening from 5-8pm. Finally, a reminder that Friday is a Staff Development Day and College will therefore be closed to all students.

As the weather is forecast to return to more typical temperatures next week, we will also be returning to our usual uniform expectations. As always, we will continue to monitor the weather carefully and communicate any necessary adjustments should conditions change.

As I write this on Friday morning, I have just waved our students off as they set off for Leasowe Lighthouse for one of my favourite events in the College calendar, our annual Brother Kerrigan Walk. I am now off to join our wonderful Friends of St. Anselm’s (FOSA) volunteers to get the ovens on and prepare lunch for everyone on their return! Having only just completed my Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate last week, I now find myself looking forward to the even greater heat of the kitchen! Most importantly, every penny raised today will support the Paul Lavelle Foundation and Martin Gallier Project as well as initiatives our Mental Health Ambassadors run in College. Please keep an eye on our social media for photographs and updates from what is always a very special day.

Kind regards,

Mrs Cubbin
