On Thursday 14th July we held a Concert for Ukraine. The Kerboodle adult choir started the evening with ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ by Oasis and followed it with an arrangement of Louis Armstrong’s ‘Wonderful World’ and ‘Let It Be’ by the Beatles. Our second act was Year 10 student Gabriel Roberts, who shows great talent in both songwriting and performing his music. He sang two of his own songs and finished with a cover. He was followed by The Painted Ceilings, a band comprising Year 11 frontman Jack Pearson who delivered tight performances of Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus, ‘She Came In Through The Bathroom Window’ by the Beatles, ‘Pinball Wizard’ by The Who and finished with Blur’s ‘Song 2’. The Junior Band treated us to a bit of jazz with ‘Get Back’ by the Beatles and, for those of us that remember it, the theme from ‘Top Cat’. Next up was Year 13 leaver Stephen Jones who gave a highly skilled and mesmerising performance on electric guitar of three hugely challenging songs by Steve Vai. Lastly, a group of staff and students performed our new song, ‘Slava Ukraine’. The music went down well with the audience, and we raised nearly £400 for the charity Refugees At Home, who are currently tasked with finding homes for thousands of Ukrainian families fleeing the war in their country. The event was supported by Stage UK who did an amazing job, providing all the sound and lighting equipment and mixing the concert for us.
