Congratulations to our Year 13 students who are now deservedly celebrating a successful conclusion to their 6th Form careers after achieving creditable A Level and BTEC results. There were many outstanding individual achievements with Luca Marzin, from Meols, gaining 4A* grades, equaling the College record and securing his place to read Biochemistry at the University of Oxford (Somerville College). Josh McAllister from Upton achieved 2A*, 1 A and 1 B grade, confirming his place to read Medicine at the University of Bristol and Stephen Dowse (PPE), from New Brighton, and Callum Jones (Chemistry) both achieved 1 A* & 2 A grades, securing their places at the universities of Warwick and Durham. Head Boy Charles O’Connor, from Caldy, and Jason Wong, from Birkenhead, have both guaranteed their places at Cardiff and Liverpool Dental Schools respectively with 3 A grades and Asher Martin (1A* & 2As) begins a degree apprenticeship in Chemical Engineering with Pfizer. One third of all university places are at Russell Group universities and all students have UCAS, apprenticeship or employment offers.
The anticipated reduction in higher grades nationally was reflected in our A Level results with 44% of entries graded at A*-B and 80% A*-C. BTEC results were pleasing with all grades at Distinction or above.
Headmaster Simon Duggan commented “These creditable results reflect the ability and commitment of our students who have persevered impressively through past disruption to their studies and in spite of the pressures caused by not having sat written GCSE exams. We are confident that they are well-prepared for the challenges and excitement of university life. They have engaged well with their studies and have also made a tremendous contribution to the extra-curricular life of the College. We wish them deserved success and fulfilment in the future.”
