Congratulations to our Year 11 students who are celebrating their GCSE results following an impressive collective effort, in coping with past disruption, with many outstanding individual successes. 97% of Year 11 boys achieved grades 4 or above in both English and Mathematics, with 80% securing grades 9-5 in both subjects. 92% of all entries secured 9-5 grades and 92% of all students achieved at least 5 GCSE grades 9-4 with 38% securing 3 or more top grades (9-7). These results represent better than expected progress, against national standards, and good value added from Key Stage 2 to GCSE, which is a considerable achievement given the national reduction in higher grades this year.
There were many outstanding individual achievements. Finnan Ashton, from Oxton, achieved seven grade 9s, Adithyna Nair, from Liverpool, six 9s and Edward Butterworth, from Greasby and Jake Seasman from Prenton five of these top grades, whilst Alex Durbin, from Prenton secured four grade 9s and five 8s, despite joining us the after the GCSE courses had started. Headmaster Simon Duggan is pleased, and relieved, with these results, which he attributed to the commitment and dedication of boys and staff, and the support of parents, despite disruption to their GCSE courses during the past 3 years. He commented “This Year group have persevered well, confronting challenging circumstances, and have not been helped by the national reduction of high grades and increased grade boundaries. We are delighted by many excellent and well-deserved individual results and we expect these outstanding students to progress to the leading universities in the country in two years’ time in the footsteps of this year’s successful A Level students.”
