This week we have prepared for, and commemorated, Holocaust Memorial Day at the College.
This year’s theme is “Ordinary People” and in our assemblies we have explored how ordinary people were drawn into genocides, both as perpetrators and victims. We have also considered examples of normal people who have responded to genocide by perpetrating extraordinary actions, like heroes and martyrs such as Sir Nicholas Winton, Wiltord Pilecki, Edith Stein, Maximillian Kolbe and Karl Plagge.
We ended our commemorations by making Statements of Commitment and lighting candles to symbolise light amidst the darkness of evil.
