Dear parents and carers,

last week finished on a high note with the safe return of the German Trip and a successful Br. Kerrigan Sponsored Walk. The boys walked well and displayed exemplary conduct. They ensured record profits for the cafe at the Seacombe Ferry Terminal and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon party! It now remains for them to collect their sponsorship money, so please encourage them to do so. We continue to support a range of local charities, such as the Wirral Food Bank and Heswall Disabled Children’s Holiday Fund, as well as projects in Sierra Leone. Year 12 have a Non-Uniform day on Friday in support of the annual Friday Club BBQ.

Fr. Michael celebrated Mass for Years 8, 10 & 12 on the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul on Thursday afternoon and the boys participated well on a very hot afternoon.

The Edmund Trust Dinner on Saturday evening celebrated the 90th Anniversary of the College’s opening in 1933 and was a great success, attended by 200 guests, most of them Anselmians. Thank you to our Guest Speaker, Mark Palios, himself a distinguished Anselmian, the Trust and our many supporters, including many parents. FOSA did a wonderful job running the bar and decorating the Hall, which looked wonderful! The Trust has secured its loan to complete the refurbishment of the top floor of Outwood House, our 6th Form Centre, and will now be contacting parents and alumni to seek your support to pay the loan off! The conversion project is going well and we expect it to be fully operational for September. All boys currently in Years 6-12 stand to benefit from its excellent facilities and this is our last major construction project of the decade!

Year 7 have their Cathedral Retreat in Liverpool tomorrow and we have induction events for our new Year 6 parents and pupils this week, prior to them joining us in September. There are NEU Strike Days on Wednesday and Friday this week, which will affect staffing and the curriculum, but the College will be open for all Years. We also have Awards Assemblies for Years 7&8 this week to celebrate the boys’ contribution to College life this year.

Year 10 are on Work Experience and we wish the boys success and enjoyment in their placements.

We have had a sharp focus upon career and Higher Education opportunities for Year 12 this half-term and this continues with trips to the Universities of Cambridge and Bangor later this week.

The week ends on an exciting note as our Junior and Intermediate teams compete in the English Schools Cup Athletics Final on Saturday. The boys will be travelling to Chelmsford on Friday.

I wish you and your families an enjoyable week.

Yours in Christ,

Simon Duggan
