Dear parents and carers,
we are now more than halfway through this half-term with only 3 weeks until we break up for Christmas and Advent beginning next weekend. Earlier today the Samaritan’s Purse charity collected 205 Christmas shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child from us, a testimony to the generosity of our community.
Our sporting season has reached a crescendo. The 1st XV were unlucky to lose by 2 tries to a very good King’s School Macclesfield team in the Cheshire Cup semi-final on Wednesday. Their cup dreams remain alive, however, as they play St. Ambrose College next Wednesday afternoon in the 5th round of the National Vase. The Under-16 XV play also play St. Ambrose in the Cheshire Cup Final at Chester RFC next Wednesday at 3.30pm. Our rugby teams play Stonyhurst College, one of the leading Catholic rugby schools in England, tomorrow.
Next Saturday, our Intermediate (Under-15) Cross Country squad run in the English Schools Cup Final at Woodbridge in Suffolk. We have high hopes for them! Our Hockey teams have also been busy recently. The 1st XI won 2 of 3 fixtures in the regional competition, the 2nd XI defeated Wirral GS 2-0 and the Under-15s drew with the same opponents.
Year 13 completed their Mock Exams today and Year 11 Mocks Week begins on Monday. Early nights this weekend and next week please!
We only have a fortnight of term during Advent next month. All Years will have charity Non-Uniform days. We celebrate our Advent Carol Service in the Hall at 6pm on 5th December, with the Year 7 Choir performing, and host our SVP Senior Citizens Christmas Party on the 6th and the FOSA Christmas Showcase at 7pm on 8th December. The College hosted the Oxton Churches Men’s Dinner earlier this month and £6,500 was raised for the Wirral Ark.
The temperature has plummeted today and a cold spell is expected next week. Please ensure that your sons wrap up warm!
Yours in Christ,
Simon Duggan
Headmaster
