Our Year 11 students are today celebrating their GCSE results following impressive collective achievement and many outstanding individual successes. 99% of Year 11 boys achieved grades 4 or above in both English and Mathematics, with 80% securing grades 5-9 and 28% grades 7-9 in both subjects. 37% of all GCSE entries earned the top grades 7-9, with 94% of entries graded 4-9. 97% of all students achieved at least 5 GCSE grades 4-9 and 50% secured at least 3 top grades, 7-9. The Progress 8 score of 61 points is our best ever! This success has maintained the high standards of recent years, with results similar to last year and above the standard achieved in the previous round of GCSE exams in 2019.
There were many outstanding individual achievements. John Drace-Francis, from Prenton, achieved a perfect ten grade 9s. Robert Alexander and Inigo Roderick-Waters, both from Wallasey, achieved ten grades 8 & 9 and Mark Sestan, from Birkenhead, six grade 9s. Vadim Bosc, from West Kirby, who won two medals in the Great Britain under-17 swimming championships this year, earned eleven grades 7-9, and Chris Burdon, from Heswall ten such grades.
Headmaster Simon Duggan is delighted by the results, which he attributed to the commitment and dedication of boys and staff, and the support of parents, despite huge disruption to their GCSE courses during the past 3 years. He commented “This is a talented and conscientious Year 11 cohort, so our students deserve these excellent grades which have been hard-earned. There are many remarkable and well-merited individual results and we expect these outstanding students to progress to the leading universities in the country in two years’ time in the footsteps of this year’s successful A Level students.”
