On Tuesday 6th February, the College hosted a “Meet the Employers” event for all Year 7 pupils. Provision of Careers Education, Information and Guidance (CEAIG) at the College is directed by the Gatsby Benchmarks. The purpose of the event was in response to Benchmark 5:
“Every pupil should have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. This can be through a range of enrichment activities including visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes.”
Our employers for the day were American Airlines, Arcadium Lithium, “responsibly harnessing the power of lithium to improve people’s lives and accelerate the transition to a clean energy future.” CMA CMG, the French shipping and logistics company, Day PM (Project Management), ITS Technology, “providing full-fibre networks and the best gigabit-capable connectivity to UK businesses” , JAW Fitness Gym, Merseyside Police, Shed km, the architects that are principally involved in transforming the Wirral waterfront and Wirral Council.
The Year Group was divided into ten groups of fifteen pupils per group and they spent approximately twenty-five minutes with each employer. The employers described the nature of their organisations, giving details of how their workforce operated. Following the introduction, there was a question and answer session. This gave the pupils an excellent opportunity to interact with our visitors.
As the employers departed, they were fulsome in their praise of our pupils’ manners, enthusiasm and communication skills. All the pupils that have expressed a positive reaction to the event saying that they found it extremely enjoyable and informative experience.
Many thanks to all our employers for giving up their valuable time and for the tremendous effort they all made to ensure the event was such a success.
