Congratulations to our Year 11 students who are celebrating their GCSE results following an impressive collective effort, with many outstanding individual successes. 90% of Year 11 boys achieved grades 4 or above in both English and Mathematics, with 70% securing grades 9-5 in both subjects. 90% of all entries secured 9-5 grades, including English and Maths, and 93% of all students achieved at least 5 GCSE grades 9-4 with 30% securing 3 or more top grades (9-7) and 35% of all entries at grades 7-9. These results represent above-average progress, against national standards, which is a creditable achievement given the national reduction in higher grades this year.
There were many outstanding individual achievements. James Jones, from Eastham, Oberon Kearney from Prenton, and Sammar Ahmed all achieved 5 grade 9s. Oberon has enjoyed a fantastic summer because he won the European Junior Biathlon Gold Medal in Madeira in July representing Great Britain. Oscar Owen, from Claughton, Abel Padayattil, from Liverpool, and Binil Varghese, from Wrexham, also achieved 100% top grades and many A*s.
Headmaster Simon Duggan is pleased, and relieved, by these results, which he attributed to the commitment and dedication of boys and staff, and the support of parents, despite disruption to their studies in Key Stage 3 during lockdown. He commented “This Year group have persevered impressively, and have achieved well despite the national reduction of high grades and increased grade boundaries. We are delighted by many excellent and well-deserved individual results and we expect these outstanding students to progress to the leading universities in the country in two years’ time in the footsteps of this year’s successful A Level students.”
