This week we had the honour of welcoming Dr Wayne Tinsey, Edmund Rice Education Beyond Borders (EREBB) Global Ambassador. Dr Tinsey shared his wisdom and passion with both students and staff, inspiring us with his reflections on the transformative power of an Edmund Rice education.

Our outstanding attendance has been recognised, once again, and we have received the ‘National School Attendance Award’ for the Spring Term 2024/25.  This award is a culmination of factors including our very close monitoring of student attendance.  However, we have recently received a number of requests for students to be absent from College to participate in fixtures or tournaments organised by external sports clubs during term time.  Please be advised that such absences will not be authorised as ‘Approved Sporting Activities’ (P code) unless the event is deemed to be educational in nature. The College reserves the right to determine whether an activity meets this criterion. Typically, this applies when a student has been selected through an open and competitive process to represent their region, country, or a professional academy. Participation in events through clubs that students have chosen to join independently does not meet this threshold. As such, these requests may only be considered under the category of ‘Exceptional Circumstance’.  However, DfE guidance is clear that absence for leisure or recreational purposes does not qualify as ‘Exceptional’, and such absences will be recorded as unauthorised. Please note that unauthorised absences contribute to the criteria for issuing Fixed Penalty Notices.  We appreciate your understanding and continued support in upholding our attendance policy.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Cubbin
