Dear parents and carers,
we have now come to the end of the penultimate week of this half-term and things are going well at the College! Our Harvest Festival collection for the Wirral Food Bank has been a fantastic success and will be picked up on Tuesday. Thank you for your generosity. We will duly turn our charitable attention to our traditional Key Stage 3 Christmas shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, either Form or individual ones. The deadline is not until 7th November so there is time for a pause in your charitable giving!
The 1st XV recorded a notable victory against Wirral Grammar School on Wednesday, 22-14, in a predictably close contest, and now advance to the 3rd round of the Nat West Vase. This weekend our Senior and Year 9 & 10 teams test themselves against Stonyhurst College. Our Cross Country Teams compete in the local round of the English Schools Cup at Arrowe Park on Tuesday afternoon.
We held our Year 10 Parents Evening on site last night, the first for almost 3 years. It went well, with good parental feedback, so we will use this model for forthcoming Parents Evenings this term.
The Spanish Trip, led by Mr Cubbin, has gone well and we wish our group a safe return tonight.
The final week of half-term is always a busy one and this year is no exception!
Mr Dowse and Mr Rumsby are hosting our annual Year 11 Study Skills evening for boys and parents at 6pm on Monday in the Hall. We are supporting our students’ wellbeing with Action for Children workshops for boys in Years 11 and 7 on Wednesday and Merseyside Police are delivering their “In the Zone” programme to Year 9 on Thursday.
If your son is on Saturday Detention tomorrow, please ensure that he attends. Failure to do so results in an increased sanction! We always get our man, just like the Mounties!
I finish on a sombre, but important, safety note.
Just over a week ago a Year 7 boy was struck by a slow-moving car on Egerton Rd. He had looked both ways and the driver was driving responsibly, but it appears that our student’s view was obscured by a car temporarily parked on the yellow zig zag lines. Parents do, overwhelmingly, park responsibly outside the College and this is only the second such incident in my 20 years here. However, I think you would agree that this is still too many! There is no good reason for anyone to park on Egerton Rd at the end of school. It is congested, owing to the buses, and all your sons are perfectly capable of walking around the corner. Please avoid alighting on yellow lines, even if only temporarily!
I wish you and your families a relaxing weekend,
Simon Duggan
