On Thursday 10th November, 5 students from St. Anselm’s College (Tom J, Oliver B, Harvey M, Michael C, Abel P) participated in the Edmund Rice network Cop27 workshop meeting, where we discussed the countries contribution to Cop27 in Egypt. Tom J a Year 12 student from our college, was tasked with writing and reciting a statement on behalf of the UK, explaining how the United Kingdom was suffering from the impact of Climate Change and how the government was tackling these issues.
In the meeting we heard from a range of students from countries who most suffer from climate change, which was very inspiring and eye opening. Here is a quote from the statement Tom read:
“Current policies are expected to reduce emissions by 58-63% below our 1990 levels. In some areas there are clear policies with credible delivery mechanisms and funding. For example, within our transport sector, which is the largest source of emissions. The Uk government has made a range of commitments and policies to help decarbonize transport including the ending of fossil fuel vehicles by 2030. The Uk is also introducing support to make Bus services faster and more reliable. As a result of this 46% of the emissions reduction target is now covered by credible policy in the transport sector. We want the world leaders to remember to stop, think, smile, and face this climate crisis with all you have!”
We are very excited to improve our climate action here in St. Anselm’s College through our climate group and our internal campaigns to reduce the use of plastic and printing!
