Dear parents and carers,

this Lenten half-term has begun well with the appointment of our new Headteacher! Mrs Serena Cubbin will succeed me from September 2024 and I offer her my best wishes and congratulations, as many of you have already done. Year 7 Parents Evening went well last night and confirmed the impression of the good start made by the boys to their Anselmian careers. They have an interesting week in prospect with English and Music trips on Thursday and Friday.
Year13 confront their 2nd set of Mock Exams next week, so a quiet weekend is in order! This will be the most realistic assessment of their progress to date. On Tuesday there is a FOSA Meeting in Room 103 at 7.30pm and on Thursday Mr Hyde hosts a Parental Advice evening delivered by Health Services in Schools in the Hall.
We have made a tremendous sporting start to the spring! On Wednesday the 1st VII finally won the Birkenhead School Sevens after finishing runner’s up in the previous 2 years. We won all 5 matches, defeating St. Mary’s College 32-24 in the final. This is deserved success for a talented and dedicated senior rugby squad! The Senior Hockey squad also performed impressively on Wednesday, reaching the final of the North-West Hockey Finals, after defeating Birkenhead School 2-0 in the semi final, before losing to Sandbach HS.

Congratulations to Alex Kerr (Y12) who has played for Sale Sharks U-18 Academy team this season, as well as captaining the U-17 team. Alex has been called up to the England Under-17 training squad. Dawid Gawel (Y10) and Taylor Houghton (Y9) both played for the Everton Academy U-15 team against Sunderland this week. They might be in the 1st team soon! Good luck to Regan O’Brien (Y11), who is playing for the Cheshire U-18 Boys’ team this weekend.
On a musical note we congratulate Jack Pearson (Y13) who has been a stalwart of college music. Jack and his band ” The Painted Ceilings” have released a single “Caught between Two Minds” which is already enjoying success!
I am pleased to bring to your attention the sacramental Confirmation Programme at Christ the King parish Bromborough, which is aimed at young people from Year 9 upwards and begins in April. Details are available from the parish or on the college website.

I wish you and your families an enjoyable week.
Yours in Christ,
Simon Duggan
Headmaster
