On Monday, 24th March 2025, a group of enthusiastic Year 12 students had the incredible opportunity to attend the prestigious University of Cambridge North-West Student Conference at Haydock Racecourse. The event, designed to inspire and inform ambitious students from across the region, provided invaluable insights into life at one of the world’s most renowned universities.
Throughout the day, students attended a variety of engaging sessions covering key topics such as:
- The Application Process: Detailed guidance on how to craft a competitive UCAS application, including personal statement tips and insights into the interview process.
- Student Life at Cambridge: A first-hand perspective from current undergraduates, who shared their experiences of academic and social life at the university.
- Subject-Specific Guidance: Subject-based workshops where students explored their chosen fields with Cambridge academics.
- Financial Support & Access: Information on bursaries, scholarships, and support schemes available to help students from all backgrounds access a world-class education.
The event not only provided vital information but also aimed to boost confidence among students who may not have previously considered applying to Cambridge. Many attendees left feeling inspired, with a clearer understanding of what the university seeks in applicants and the range of opportunities available to them.
One Year 12 student reflected on the experience, saying: “Attending the conference really opened my eyes to the possibility of studying at Cambridge. The sessions were informative and made it feel much more achievable.”
By the end of the day, students departed with a wealth of knowledge, increased motivation, and a stronger sense of ambition. The conference reaffirmed that Cambridge is open to talented students from all backgrounds, encouraging them to pursue their academic aspirations with confidence.
We look forward to seeing our students take on the challenge and apply to Cambridge in the future!
