Dear parents and carers,

the GCSE and A Level exam season is now in full swing and there is only a week of this half-term left.

The boys have demonstrated impressive maturity in adapting to exam routines and Study Leave has now begun for both Years 11 and 13.

I am pleased to inform you that the College has been awarded a 4 Star Gold Award for 2023-4 by SchoolGuide.co.uk  .

We have resumed sporting competition now that spring has finally arrived. Both our Junior and Intermediate Athletics teams won the local round of the English Schools Athletics Cup and have qualified for the Regional Final. Congratulations to Year 12 students Joe Healey, Paddy Jones and Daniel Peers, all of whom played for Cheshire in their victory over West Midlands last weekend. This success is doubtless linked to the expert coaching they received in the dark arts of forward play when in the 2nd XV earlier this season! Fellow front row forward Anthony Hirons is representing Cheshire this weekend. Congratulations also to Year 11 student Thomas Gilchrist who is a member of the Vauxhall’s team which won the Junior Premier League National Cup Final, defeating Potter’s Bar 3-2 at the Keepmoat Stadium last weekend, and to Taylor Houghton (Y9) who played  for Everton Under-15s at Goodison Park this week.

Our Duke of Edinburgh programme resumed this afternoon. Miss Browning is leading the overnight Year 10 practice expedition locally. Such activities would not be possible without the support of dedicated staff who are willing to give up their free time for the boys.

Key Stage 3 Exams begin on Tuesday and finish on Friday. Boys have been provided with timetables which are also posted on SIMs. Please ensure that your sons in Years 7, 8 and 9 revise this weekend and have some early nights!

I wish you and your families an enjoyable weekend as the Catholic Church celebrates the great Feast of Pentecost. This will be our liturgical theme next week.

Yours in Christ,

Simon Duggan

Headmaster
