On Friday, our Edmund Rice Society, which works in connection with the Edmund Rice International Network, based in its United Nation’s Offices in Geneva, posted a letter to our local MP regarding the ‘Assisted Dying Bill’, which is currently at its amendment stage in the House of Commons, pending its Third Reading.
The Letter brought together the broad range of views that are represented by our Sixth Form members; setting out of the views of the Catholic Church on the issue, before raising other ethical, political and social concerns regarding the Bill’s language, its potential to shape law in the future, the precedents that might be set by its passing, and the inconsistencies that seem to have arisen in the Parliamentary process.
Our MP, Mrs. Alison McGovern has been invited by the Edmund Rice Society to visit the College on 25th April, where she will answer questions from our Sixth Form on this issue and on others.
