The Year 10 Cricket team produced a mature display to reach the quarter-finals of the Cheshire Cup.
Playing away at The Grange school in Northwich on a beautiful summer’s day the hosts batted smartly. It was a very tricky pitch, but we found it difficult to get wickets and following the twenty overs Grange had scored 116 runs. We had bowled accurately and with much more purpose than in previous matches, but this looked a very decent score from the hosts.
We started our innings slowly and Grange bowled tight and with some swing. 116 looked a near impossible feat, especially after 10 overs when we had only 34 runs. However, Jamie Lewis making his debut for the side, had other ideas. He started to attack and hit some beautiful boundaries. He was supported by several of his teammates and Ed Unsworth had an impressive cameo to keep the score ticking.
By the time Dan Peers arrived at the crease and hit an impressive 30 it really was game on. The penultimate over concluded with a six and then we needed 7 runs off the final over to win.
Fittingly it was Dan Peers, who had also bowled extremely well, who hit a four off the last ball to seal an exciting victory!
It was a superb team effort and well done to everyone for training hard in the nets these past few weeks. The improvement is evident and the team spirit has grown with every victory.
Well done
