On Wednesday, 2nd July, members of our sixth form attended the ‘Gaudete Pilgrimage of Hope.’ This took place in Liverpool, and was organized by representatives of the Gaudete Trust, which St. Anselm’s and other Christian Brother Schools have recently entered into. The Pilgrimage began at St. Patrick’s Church, Toxteth, and continued through St. Vincent’s and on to the Metropolitan Cathedral. Along the journey students were invited to listen and discuss the subject of ‘Hope’ – firstly what it has meant for the Catholics of Liverpool through the generations, and then what it might mean in their own personal lives. All of this was playing into the theme that the late Pope Francis has set out for this Year of Jubilee – that we are all called to be ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ in our faith, and in union with other school communities and the wider Church. It was a deeply immersive and prayerful experience, and it was felt meaningful to partake in it with other Christian Brother Schools, as well as with Upton Hall, with whom St. Anselm’s has long-standing ties.
