Dear Parents and Carers,
Hopefully you will have received the link to this term’s newsletter, which highlights the many achievements and activities our students have been involved in. The newsletter is also available on our website/social media.
Year 11 and Year 13 students continue to prepare for their final examinations. A range of masterclass timetables, Easter revision resources, and additional support have been shared with them. Students have also been informed of their study leave dates (A supervised study room will also be available for any students who wish to study in College):
- Year 11: Study leave begins at 3:30pm on Thursday 14 May. A celebration morning (including shirt signing and assembly) will take place on a date to be confirmed.
- Year 13: Study leave begins at 3:30pm on Friday 22 May, followed by a Leavers’ BBQ at 6:00pm. The Leavers’ Mass and Colours Awards Ceremony will take place on 19 June, with the Prom at Thornton Manor on 23 June (tickets available via ParentPay).
Following consultation, we will introduce a graduated approach to a new mobile phone policy. In the next half term, we will begin with ‘Phone-Free Fridays’. This will then progress in the final half term to a clear expectation that mobile phones must not be seen, heard, or used during the College day unless directed by a teacher for educational purposes. Initially, this will be implemented through a supportive reminder system to help students adapt to the changes. From September 2026, this will develop into a formal policy with clear expectations and sanctions for non-compliance. Further information, including full details of the new mobile phone policy, will be shared in due course.
Huge congratulations to our Edmund Rice Headteacher Award winners for this half term: Louis (7J), Andrei (7J), Noah (8A), Che (9A), Henry (10A), Finley (10S), Luke (10A), Alfie (10J), and Charlie (11A). These students have embodied the Edmund Rice 8 Essentials and are outstanding ambassadors for the College. We are incredibly proud of their contributions, particularly their commitment during our Lenten charitable activities, their positive example as role models, and the care and compassion they consistently show towards others. Congratulations also to Kayton (Year 9), our Artist of the Term! Kayton hopes to be an architect one day – I know he will be amazing.
We look forward to welcoming all students back to college on Monday 13th April, punctual, well-presented, and ready to learn. Please note that failure to meet expectations will result in sanctions! A reminder that chewing gum is strictly prohibited and will also incur a sanction.
As we celebrate Easter, we are reminded of its message of hope, renewal, and new beginnings. In the Gospel of John, we hear: “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10). This reflects our commitment to nurturing every individual to grow, flourish, and live life to the fullest.
I wish all families a peaceful and joyful Easter break.
Kind regards
Mrs Cubbin
