Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Year 13 students are nearing the end of their mock examinations, with one final weekend of study before they conclude on Monday. Year 11 students should now be fully focused on daily revision, with a second round of mocks in selected subjects approaching and external examinations only weeks away!
We wish our Under-16 rugby team the very best as they travel to Ipswich School to compete in the Semi-Final of the School Sport Magazine National Cup. Remaining unbeaten this season and already Cheshire Cup winners, reaching the national semi-final is a remarkable achievement of which they should be very proud. (Arrangements to be confirmed).
In case you did not receive my email earlier this week, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the key findings from our recent Church Schools Inspection report, which we received this week.
I am delighted to share that the College has been judged Outstanding in every category, resulting in an overall judgement of Outstanding, another significant first for the College.
The report recognises the College as a thriving, inclusive and faith-filled community where students flourish both academically and spiritually. Inspectors celebrate the strength of our distinctive ethos noting that ‘the unique charism of the Edmund Rice is woven into every aspect of daily life’. They found that students ‘feel happy and secure’ and that relationships between staff and students are ‘outstanding’ which culminates in ‘outstanding behaviour and a calm and purposeful atmosphere, which is evident at all times in the classroom’.
Our culture of care is described as ‘exceptional, with a real focus on supporting the most vulnerable’. The College ‘exemplifies inclusivity, with every pupil being known and diversity being embraced’, ensuring that each young person is valued, supported and encouraged to achieve their very best, that ‘everyone benefits from the St Anselm’s experience’.
Religious Education is held ‘in the highest regard, it is seen as the beacon subject in the curriculum’. Inspectors confirmed that ‘outcomes are consistently above national figures’, and that ‘religious literacy is excellent’. A Level Theology is highlighted as a particular strength, with students being described as ‘effusive about their lessons’.
Prayer, liturgy and chaplaincy provision were also judged to be outstanding, enriching students’ spiritual development and strengthening their sense of community. Staff and students are united in their commitment to service, enthusiastically embracing the many opportunities available to serve others.
Inspectors praised the dedication of our staff, who are inspired to ‘serve as outstanding role models’, and our leaders, who demonstrate ‘high expectations’ and an unwavering ‘commitment to continuous improvement’.
Indeed, this report affirms what I witness every day, a community where faith is lived with conviction, excellence is pursued with determination, and care is shown with genuine compassion. St Anselm’s is not simply a place of education, it is a place of formation, belonging and aspiration. It is, without doubt, a community to be proud to be part of. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we ensure that our shared mission continues.
‘We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.’ Philippians 4:13.
Kind regards,
Mrs Cubbin
