Dear parents/carers,

It is with great sadness that we mourn the death of Pope Francis. However, his legacy is one of hope and joy and we take strength from this legacy and vision for the future.

When Pope Francis became the leader of the Catholic Church in 2013, he was known for his kindness, his openness and his message of mercy. He taught us the importance of caring for the poor, protecting the environment and reaching out to people of all faiths with respect and understanding.

During his 12 year papacy, Francis, the first Jesuit pope, was a vocal champion of the world’s poor, the dispossessed and disadvantaged, and a blunt critic of corporate greed and social and economic inequality. Within the Vatican, he criticised extravagance and privilege, calling on church leaders to show humility.

Pope Francis reminded us that the Church is not just a building, but a community of people united by love and faith. He often said, “Let us never forget we are called to be holy.”

His life encourages us to do small acts of kindness with great love, to always seek peace and to walk humbly with God.

In assemblies this week, and during Mass, we remembered his legacy; we asked ourselves: how can we live like Pope Francis? How can we bring more love, mercy, and kindness into our world?

Prayer for Pope Francis
O God, faithful rewarder of souls,
grant that your departed servant Pope Francis,
whom you made successor of Peter
and shepherd of your Church,
may happily enjoy for ever in your presence in heaven
the mysteries of your grace and compassion,
which he faithfully ministered on earth.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God rest in peace.
Amen.

In other news, I just wanted to say how overwhelmed I was with the outstanding behaviour and respectfulness of all 100 students who went skiing over the Easter break.

Thank you to Paul Anderson, (former student at the College from 1979 – 1986) who led an inspirational assembly this week. He and his son became the first Father-Son team to summit Mt Everest, climbing from the Tibet side. In doing so the pair raised over £130,000 for Dementia UK.

I look forward to seeing those who have tickets at the Race Night tonight!

Week Ahead:

  • 25th April FOSA Race Night – Mini-bus Fundraising

  • 29th April KS3/Yr10 Mass at Our Lady’s Birkenhead – St. Anselm & Blessed Edmund Rice Celebratory Mass
  • 1st May Yr8 Parents Evening on School Cloud

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Cubbin
