Dear parents and carers,

I hope that you are enjoying the good weather and that it will last for the weekend! I begin with very important news. Although some staff are taking industrial action on Tuesday 2nd May the College will be open to ALL Year groups and students. Years 8 and 9 will attend College as usual. Please remember that in order to balance curriculum time we will be following a Monday Week A timetable on Tuesday. This will be challenging for us, and we will require the full co-operation of all students, but it is an indication of our commitment to the education of your sons.

If you have visited the College recently you will have noticed the enormous crane in the Front Car Park. This is lifting the girders for the external staircase in Outwood House, as the refurbishment of the top floor continues. All students in Years 7-12 will benefit from this project and we urge parents to support the Edmund Rice Trust’s fundraising efforts, as it is contributing £1/4 million to the Outwood project.

A Level and GCSE Art assessments begin this week for Year 13 and 11 Art students.

Year 12 Exams begin on Thursday and continue until 12th May. These results will have a significant bearing upon UCAS predicted grades for all Year 12 students.

Year 8 Parents Evening has been re-arranged for Thursday 4th May from 5-8pm. Please sign in at Reception. Most staff will be located in their Departments.

Congratulations to Patrick Gambles (Y12) who finished 2nd in the Frank Moran Young Writers Competition at The Athenaeum Club.

Well done to Charlie Clarke (Y8) who has been selected for the Cheshire Cricket Under-13 squad this summer.

Our Lenten fundraising has now reached £3,000 with KS3 and the 6th Form both raising over £1,000. Thank you for your support and generosity and well done to our students. This is a College Lenten record!

On Friday 5th May, along with our global family of schools, we celebrate the Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice, founder of the Congregation of Christian Brothers. We continue to be inspired by his charism, as demonstrated by our fundraising.

I wish you and your families a joyful Bank Holiday weekend.

Yours in Christ

Simon Duggan
