The Physical Education and Games Faculty seeks to:

1. Offer a varied programme designed to meet the needs of all students in order to discover and develop their talents.

2. Assist in the development of the whole person by fostering a spirit of self – discipline, fair play, team-work and co-operation through understanding the capabilities and limitations of themselves and others.

3. Promote a safe and healthy participation in a variety of sports that students may enjoy and continue through adult life

The College has a long tradition of excellence in sport and we are proud to have achieved the prestigious Physical Education Department of the Year award at the Wirral Sports Awards in 2019 in recognition of our commitment to promoting the benefits of Physical Education. On site, students enjoy the use of the Sports Centre, opened in June 2014, which includes a Gymnasium, Sports Hall and fitness suite. There are also two classrooms and an ICT suite for GCSE and A Level theory lessons. The College ground adjacent to the Sports Centre is also used for training, whilst our main sports pitches and pavilion are situated a short distance away at the Ridings, Noctorum. Students are offered a wide range of activities including athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cross country, gymnastics, hockey, rugby and tennis.

Throughout this programme, we endeavour to develop the physical, moral, cultural and spiritual well being of each student through his participation in sport. We are proud of the high standards achieved, particularly in athletics, cross country, hockey and rugby. Our teams consistently reach the finals of National competitions in both athletics and cross country. The rugby and hockey teams compete successfully against many of the best schools in the North West. The College has represented England in an international Cross Country event. The Games Faculty organises numerous events. These include, pre-season practice, Cross Country training weekends, such Scotland in 2021 and sports tours abroad. Sports tours have included an annual Year 9 Rugby tour to Italy and a Canada and USA Rugby tour in July 2018. The Senior Hockey also toured Holland in 2018. Post Pandemic, the Senior Rugby squads enjoyed a Tour to Northern Ireland recently and junior team trips to Leicester and Wasps games. Senior sports should resume in the summer of 2023 with a rugby tour to South Africa planned. There is an annual ski trip, the most recent being a ski trip to Alpes Du Huez in April 2019 and we are scheduled to go to Jasper in Canada in 2023.

Many students progress to representative honours, competing for their county at regional level and their country at national level. Distinguished old boys include several recent rugby internationals – British Lion and Heineken Cup winner, Austin Healey; England three-quarter, Ben Johnston; and Ireland backs Simon Mason and Christian Saverimutto. In Athletics Ikem Billy represented Great Britain in the 800m and Graeme Matthews won the Triple Jump Gold Medal at the Junior Commonwealth Games in 2005.
