Benjamin Jones

Class of 2011

In 2011, Ben left the College after studying French, Spanish, History and Economics. He went on to study French and Hispanic Studies at King’s College London.

During his time at the College, Ben represented the 1st XV in rugby and was part of the team who toured Canada in 2009. In 2010 Ben was voted Head Boy and was also a committee member of the Friday Club.  Ben was an active member of the SVP Society and participated in a pilgrimage to Lourdes. He also took part in the immersion trip to Sierra Leone.

Ben now works for the Department for Culture, Media and Sports, where he supports the delivery of major sporting events, such as working on delivering the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.

Ben hung up his rugby boots after university and is now an avid cyclist, representing a club in Sheffield and previously racing for a club in London. In his spare time, he also enjoys climbing and hiking in the Peak District with his partner and heading to the odd Everton match when he can!

Memories of his time at the College:

I had a fantastic time at the College and forged friendships and memories that I’m sure will last long into the future. Particular highlights would definitely be the trips to Lourdes and Sierra Leone in Sixth Form, which were both eye-opening trips and highlighted just how fortunate we are in life.

Mr Dillon bookended my time at the College, having taught me history in Year 7 and as our form tutor in Year 13. Mr Ravenscroft was an ever-present figure throughout school and taught us all the importance of hard-work and determination in achieving goals.

I bumped into Mr Taylor at a recent Birkenhead Park vs Anselmians cup match and he clearly hadn’t forgotten the time he had to take me to the Royal Blackburn Hospital after I broke my leg at Stonyhurst!

Finally, Mr Hollifield was a terrific mentor and taught me many things, not least how fulfilling and enjoyable studying languages can be.
