16-19 Bursary Information

The 16–19 Bursary Fund is a financial support scheme designed to help eligible students with the costs of continuing their education. 

Support is available to help with the following expenses:

  • Travel costs
  • Meals
  • Books and other equipment
  • Clothing 
  • Educational visits
  • Other course-related costs

There are two types of bursaries, guaranteed bursaries and discretionary bursaries.

Guaranteed Bursary

To qualify for this bursary award a student must be either:

  • In care
  • A care leaver
  • In receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit in their own right
  • In receipt of Employment Support Allowance, Universal Credit and Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments

Discretionary Bursary

A student can apply for this award if the total household income is below £24,500 per year.
