All students study at least 9 subjects at GCSE (with some students accessing 10 or 11 subjects) sitting examinations in the summer of Year 11. The following are compulsory non-examined subjects studied by all students:


  • Citizenship
  • Core Computer Science (Year 10)
  • Personal Development including Sex and Relationship Education
  • PE (Physical Education)
  • Games


The following are compulsory GCSE subjects studied by all students:

  • RE (Religious Education), Mathematics, English Language and English Literature.


Students either study GCSE Separate Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and a further two option subjects or GCSE Combined Science (Trilogy) and a further three option subjects.


The option subjects available are: Art, Music, Design Technology, GCSE PE, Computer Science, French, German, Spanish, History and Geography.


All students study at least one Modern Foreign Language at GCSE


The academically able Mathematicians are given the opportunity to study the FSMQ between January and June in Year 11.

Academically able Scientists are offered the opportunity to study Fast Track GCSE Separate Sciences within the allocated Combined Science time.


Students follow a fortnightly timetable, with 6 x 50 minute lessons per day. The number of lessons for each year group is set out in the table below:
