Dear Parents/Carers,

I am delighted to see the triumphant return of our full calendar of sporting events! Our rugby teams are as strong as ever, securing a series of spectacular victories against the formidable Lancaster Royal Grammar School. In hockey, our U-15 team showcased their skill and determination, defeating Wirral Grammar in a hard-fought match.

Last Friday, 64 of our students competed in the Merseyside County Championships, with nine earning the honor of going onto represent their county. From Year 7, congratulations to Noah Mills, James Merriman, Josh Lawrenson, Oliver Chesters, and Alfie McGee. From KS4/5, we celebrate Michael Phelan, Jac Chapman, Oberon Kearney, and James Jones. Our Year 7 students will compete against Cheshire in April, while our KS4/5 students will compete in the prestigious English Schools National Final on 15th March at Ardingly Showground, West Sussex.

This is a remarkable achievement, and it reflects the incredible dedication and effort of our students. To everyone who continues to support our team’s week after week at every event, thank you – your encouragement and enthusiasm truly make a world of difference. Together, we celebrate these victories and look forward to many more!

On Monday we proudly welcomed back alumnus Jamie Carragher, Emmy Award-winning scriptwriter for ‘Succession’. A student at the College from 2003 to 2019, Jamie went on to study History at the University of Oxford. He delivered an inspiring assembly, sharing insights from his journey at the College and his remarkable career, followed by an engaging Q&A session with aspiring scriptwriters. A source of inspiration for all.

Today marks the launch of the Jubilee Year for all schools, proclaimed by Pope Francis as ‘Pilgrims of Hope.’ It is a call to renew our hope in God’s love for each of us. This week, assemblies explored the symbolism of the Jubilee logo, and we are excited to introduce a range of activities over the coming weeks for students to celebrate this special year.
