Dear parents and carers,

this was certainly one of our more unusual weeks this year, with the weather being worse than forecast! However, the boys’ education was barely disrupted, owing to the tremendous efforts of staff and students with the site being rendered safe and high attendance despite disruption to transport. Thank you for your support! I was dumbfounded to see some boys attend school without coats and sweaters on some very cold days, so please monitor your son when he leaves your home. We do not allow hoodies to be worn instead of sweaters.

We distributed Year 11 Mock Exam Certificates on Tuesday and Mr. Dowse’s online meeting was well-attended. A handful of MFL grades have been elevated on review, so there is good news coming for several boys and their parents! The Year 11 6th Form Taster Day went well and the students behaved with the maturity that is required in our 6th Form.

Sports fixtures have continued despite the cold. Last Saturday we shared the honours with St. Ambrose College, defeating them in Years 7, 8 and 9. The Under-17 XV were unlucky to lose 26-22 against Merchant Taylor’s 1st XV on Wednesday. Sadly, all rugby fixtures scheduled for tomorrow have been postponed. Congratulations to Charlie C (Y9) who has been chosen for the Cheshire Cricket EPP and runners Obe K, Michael P, Malachi H and Tommy R who have been selected to run for Merseyside Cross Country Championships in March.

There are changes ahead at the College and Mr Greaves, our Chair of Governors, is writing to you this weekend with an explanation of them. Our Trustees, the Congregation of Christian Brothers, are withdrawing from active Trusteeship and are founder members, with other Roman Catholic Religious Orders, of the Gaudete Trust, which will take over our Trustees this year. The Brothers will still retain an interest in the College and be represented in the Trust and there will be no impact upon the education provided by the College for your sons. It is simply a change at Trustee level and we will remain an Edmund Rice College.

I wish you and your families a relaxing, enjoyable and warmer weekend.

Yours in Christ,

Simon Duggan

Headmaster
