Dear parents and carers,
we are back in familiar routines at the College after a week of the Summer Term.
The week has been enlivened by the visit of Jonny Ball, tv personality and numeracy enthusiast, who delivered a series of fascinating Maths talks to Years 7-10 on Thursday and was the talk of the yards afterwards! No mean feat for an 84 year old whom many parents, and staff, are likely to remember from the television of our childhood. Old Anselmian Deacon Rev. Duncan Atkins visited the College today and delivered an enjoyable and thought-provoking Assembly to Years 7 and 8. He also generously donated a beautiful icon of Jesus which will be blessed at our 90th Anniversary Mass, which will be celebrated in the Hall at 11am tomorrow morning. All Anselmian families are welcome and there are refreshments afterwards. I am pleased to announce that Year 8 Parents Evening went well last night. If any Year 8 parents have a concern that was not addressed, please contact Mr Diaz.
As some of you will be aware, Mr Adam Bennett left the College for a promotion at the end of last term and Mr Mike Foo, a familiar figure here, will teach most of his Maths classes, with his A Level teaching divided between our permanent staff. Mrs Ana Roslan will be Form Teacher for 11H for the remainder of this half-term.
The GCSE Exam season has begun! Year 11 German students completed their Speaking Tests this week and French and Spanish candidates will do so next week, with PE Moderation and Art to follow thereafter. Please support and encourage their preparations! Year 10 College Exams begin on Thursday, so please ensure that your sons have a quiet and studious weekend and a succession of early nights!
We have our College photograph on Wednesday morning, involving all boys and staff. Please make sure that your sons are smartly dressed and wearing appropriate footwear.
Year 8 HPV vaccinations will be administered by NHS nurses on Thursday.
The weather seems to have improved at last, despite the high winds, which we hope will abate before Wednesday!
I wish you and your families an enjoyable weekend as we celebrate the vocations of the Christian Brothers and our staff, past and present.
Yours in Christ,
Simon Duggan
Headmaster
