ST. ANSELM’S COLLEGE CURRICULUM VISION FOR MATHEMATICS
VISION A highly ambitious curriculum in Mathematics is focused on solving mathematical problems and is underpinned by developing a deep understanding of the principle of Mathematics, not just the methods, formulae and skills required to solve these problems.
INTENT – summary of the thinking behind your curriculum design and its sequencing
Our curriculum flows out of KS2 teaching, deepening concepts met there and introducing algebra and the use of proof wherever possible.
IMPLEMENTATION summary of the pedagogy to be used to effectively deliver the curriculum Whilst each year we refer back to past learning we develop understanding through Years 7 to 13 always with an emphasis on investigation and discovery rather than just simple instruction.  Our use of RAG Review Sheets for each unit of work help students focus on key concepts.  This initiates their own reflection on progress year on year and allows them to implement their own targets with support at home as well as with their class teacher.
IMPACT – the long-lasting impact your curriculum will have on our students
Students are confident to tackle unfamiliar phrased and styled problems using the techniques learned because they have a deep understanding of the structures of Mathematics.  We aim to mould all students into confident individuals whose strength is in their ability to persevere.
