Dear parents and carers,

I would like to begin by wishing you and your families a Happy New Year! I hope that the Christmas holiday did allow you some opportunities to relax, which is never easy for parents! I am pleased to report that we have made a good start to this term, despite the cold weather. A few boys are still sporting longish hair, so please take the opportunity for a New Year trim this weekend!

The college calendar is back in full swing and this week we have the Year 11 Mock Certificates Evening in the Hall at 6pm. You and your sons will discover his recent exam grades, leading to a new phase in his GCSE preparations! We expect all parents and boys to attend as advice and guidance for the next 2 terms will be communicated. All Year 11 boys will have the opportunity to participate in our 6th Form Taster Morning on Thursday, subject to appropriate conduct, to afford them an insight into the post-16 education provided at the College.

FOSA are also meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm and all parents are welcome to join us. Our Sierra Leone group have a parental meeting at 6pm on Tuesday in preparation for our forthcoming Immersion Retreat in February, our first since the Covid pandemic.

Rugby and Hockey fixtures resumed this week. The Under-17 XV were unlucky to lose 22-21 at St. Ambrose College on Wednesday and the 1st XI defeated Rydal Penrhos 3-1, with a hat trick from Padraig Ibrahim. Tomorrow we resume our rivalry with St. Ambrose in Years 7-10, with all teams bar Year 7 at The Ridings.

I finish with a couple of traffic notices. The 611 and 612 buses have been late this week, owing to extensive roadworks in Wirral. We expect the situation to improve next week, especially around Heswall and Woodchurch Road.  Please ensure that you do not park over neighbours’ drives if you are collecting your son at 3.30pm.

Please pray for old Anselmian Canon Phil Moor, Vicar-General of the Diocese of Shrewsbury, who is in hospital.

I hope that 2024 proves to be an enjoyable and rewarding one for you and your families.

Yours in Christ,

Simon Duggan Headmaster
