Martin McWatt
Class of 1992
Martin studied Biology, Chemistry and Physics at the College. He was also a regular member of the rugby 1st teams throughout the years.
After leaving the College in 1992, Martin went to the University of Birmingham and studied Chemistry. He spent a number of years in research where he obtained a doctorate, before training as a science teacher. After becoming a qualified teacher, Martin taught abroad for a while before returning home in the late naughties to teach science in an independent school in north Liverpool.
After a decade or so he took a position in a private company specialising in laboratory practical assessments for home-schoolers and adult learners.
At present Martin is running his own online tutoring company, specialising in GCSE science and A-level chemistry.
In his free time, Martin does as much road-biking as he can, plus snowboarding in the winter, and kitchen gardening in the summer.
Memories of his time at the College:
Dr Gore drawing our 6th form class in closer to the front desk to watch a demonstration of the thermal reaction (explosive!) before lighting the magnesium fuse and legging it out of the lab. We couldn’t see properly for about 20 minutes after, and white smoke was left hugging the ceiling 3 feet thick. No such thing as health and safety in those days…
